Founder Story: Why Statement Co.
Hello friends, Sarah Cargill here. Today, I’m excited to share that I’m now the proud founder of Statement Co., an independent consultancy helping leaders make a statement with business strategy, brand, communications, and change management for business transformation and growth.
Allow me to back up a bit and share how we arrived here.
Where It Began
I’ve had an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age—whether it was selling burned CDs for friends in grade school (pre illegal music downloads of course), working for a self-made entrepreneur in high school, shopping and reselling vintage clothes college, or launching my first official business in 2013 creating brand stories and building websites.
This self-motivated energy landed me in rapid leadership growth roles at big brands and well known consulting firms. For the greater part of the last 15+ years I’ve been navigating corporate in various change communications, strategy, operations, management consulting, and leadership roles. During that time I gained so many impactful learnings around teamwork, collaboration, leadership, client delivery, business development, and consulting skills.
A Return to Entrepreneurship
In the last year, the call to return to entrepreneurship began—a coaching friend recommended I take the leap while transitioning roles, some friends asked if we could start businesses together to build a dream team, others asked how I started a business in the past, a few started cheerleading me on spotting something I didn’t yet see, and one even reminded me that the playbook for their current business is what I shared with them ten years ago as my first little business was growing.
I began to remember the exciting personal and professional growth I experienced from starting my first business. There was never a time that I learned so much, felt so connected to my community, and felt such a personal impact on the people around me than when I was helping business owners shape their story, share it with the world, and realize their dreams. And, this got me dreaming.
So, after getting accepted into a state program that invests in business owners, I decided it was time to step back into an exciting new adventure to build and share an idea—a business.
Why Statement Co.
When I think about the unique skills that an independent consultancy has to offer, it’s closely tied to my personal journey and learnings—or what I know to do best in business sstrategy, brand, communications, change management, and consulting. With a diversity of experiences working with individuals, small businesses, and corporations, I know that these problem solving skills can have a meaningful impact on business transformation and growth.
In my mind, the glue that holds these skills or services together is storytelling—the connection, authenticity, arc, or clarity of what we say and how we say it. Storytelling dates back to the dawn of humans—a way that we built connection, fostered trust, passed on information, and prepared for change. Arguably we are wired for storytelling and yet it can be a lost craft when hitting sales targets, bulleting to do lists, and organizing business units. Storytelling to solve problems takes creativity, empathy, and leadership—ingredients so key to corporate success today.
I want to help individuals, small businesses, and corporations in my community tell meaningful, bold, exciting, compelling, and transformational stories to build their business strategies, navigate complex changes, and communicate their brand to others. In other words, I want to help leaders—make a statement.
Thus, Statement Co. was born.
Shaped by Community to Serve Community
I’m on a mission to provide leaders with an empowering membership community, enriching course offerings, and impactful consulting.
Statement Co. offers management consulting services around business strategy, brand, communications, and change management in the form of coaching hours, project-based delivery, and fractional leadership.
In the coming months and year, it will also offer thought leadership and educational content in the form of blogs, digital courses, workshops, events, member programs, and more.
I will be joined by a team of independent consultants who will augment creative, executive coaching, service/experience design, writing, technology, engineering, and more. It is with the support of my community—my significant other, our friends, mentors, collaborators, and state programs—that I’m able to embark on this next adventure. For that, I’m deeply grateful and humbled.
I could not be more excited to return to serving my community and helping those around me with this new adventure. While I’m buzzing with ideas with all the ways Statement Co. can evolve, it’s important to me that I invest time and energy in the things that have a meaningful impact on my community.
This is where YOU come in. I want community input on where I can focus to have impact. Whether you leverage Statement Co. or not, this is a chance to help me shape a business from the onset.
